Addictions has come a long way from the days when it was perceived as a moral failure and lack of willpower. Science has improved our understanding of addictions as an illness and has helped us make tremendous progress in treatment and care. Behavioral health providers across the country are working hard very day to help those with addiction disorders lead productive lives and contain the harmful consequences and costs to society of untreated addictions. The National Council is of the view that freedom from addictions and mental illness is integral to overall health and we offer an increasing array of resources in addictions services.
