CMS to Award Chronic Disease Prevention Grants
The application period is now open for a new grant program created under health reform, Medicaid Incentives for Prevention of Chronic Diseases. Ten grants of up to $10 million each will be awarded for programs that provide incentives to Medicaid beneficiaries of all ages who participate in prevention programs and demonstrate changes in health risk and outcomes, including the adoption of healthy behaviors. Grants Available for 2011 Drug Free Communities Mentoring Program
HHS, SAMHSA, and the Office of National Drug Control Policy are now accepting applications for the 2011 Drug Free Communities (DFC) Mentoring Program. Eligible applicants are existing DFC grantees, who will serve as mentors to newly-formed and/or developing coalitions that have never received a DFC grant. Applications are due Apr. 25, 2011. U.S. Department of Labor Offers Funding For Community Projects that Help Juvenile Offenders
The Department of Labor has announced that it will provide $20 million in grants though its Civic Justice Corps program. Up to 13 grants will be awarded for projects that help juvenile offenders gain job skills and demonstrate accountability through community service projects. Applications are due March 15, 2011. Grants Available for Evidence-Based Practices for Autism & Developmental Disabilities
The Maternal and Child Health Research Program will award grants of $300,000 each to conduct research on evidence-based practices for interventions to improve the health and well-being of children and adolescents with ASD and other developmental disabilities. Eligible entities include public or private nonprofit agencies. Applications are due Mar. 28, 2011. Read More.
HHS Announces Cycle II of CHIP Outreach & Enrollment Grants
The Department of Health & Human Services has announced it will award grants of at least $200,000 each to programs designed to facilitate the enrollment, renewal, and retention of CHIP-eligible children. Eligible applicants include community-based organizations. Applications are due by Apr. 18. Read More.
USDA Webinar to Cover 2011 Telemedicine Grant Application Process
On March 9 from 2:30-4:00 pm eastern time, USDA Rural Development will hold a webinar on the Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant Program FY 2011 Application Process. The Distance Learning and Telemedicine Program (DLT) is designed to meet the educational and health care needs of rural America, including by supporting telemedicine. Read More.
Online Toolkit Provides Guidance on Obtaining Byrne JAG Funds
The Legal Action Center has released a new toolkit to help providers obtain federal Byrne JAG funds to support alternatives to incarceration (ATI), reentry, and substance use treatment and prevention services. The National Alliance to End Homelessness has released a toolkit, “Using Advocacy to End Homelessness: A Toolkit for Understanding and Conducting Advocacy.” The toolkit explores strategies to advance policies that prevent and end homelessness, including detailed descriptions of how to execute each strategy as well as engagement tips, adaptable sample materials, and real-life examples.
