As Hazelden's vice president of public affairs and community relations, Moyers carries the organization's message to communities across the nation. As a recovering addict, he uses his own experiences to highlight the power of addiction and the promise of recovery.
His New York Times bestseller,Broken: My Story of Addiction and Redemption, is more than a harrowing first-person account of hitting rock bottom and fighting back. Moyers’ unique memoir takes on addiction from all angles: from the spiritual to the political.
A well-respected journalist who worked for CNN before joining Hazelden in 1996, Moyers has appeared on Larry King Live, the Oprah Winfrey show, National Public Radio, and is a regular contributor to Good Morning America. His work also has been featured in the New York Times, USA Today, and Newsweek magazine. He writes a nationally syndicated column on addiction-related issues, Beyond Addiction.
Moyers has received numerous honors for his work to eliminate the stigma around addiction and expand access to treatment for people suffering from alcoholism or drug dependence.
