Each June, we come together as an organization to celebrate Pride Month, reflect on the LGBTQ+ communities’ advancements and recognize their achievements. We also acknowledge their ongoing struggle for health and social justice, while honoring those who work to achieve equal opportunity for persons who identify as LGBTQ+. Join us as we bring awareness to the challenges LGBTQ+ individuals face, including those that impact their mental wellbeing. Here are some resources:

- 7.1% of Americans identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
- 59% of LGBTQ+ people feel they have fewer employment opportunities.
- More than 1 in 3 LGBTQ+ individuals faced discrimination of some kind in the past year.
- Around 3 in 10 LGBTQ+ individuals faced difficulties accessing medical care due to cost issues.
- 15% of LGBTQ+ people postponed or avoided medical treatment due to discrimination.
- 45% of LGBTQ+ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year.
- 60% of LGBTQ+ youth who wanted mental health care in the past year were not able to get it.
- 73% of LGBTQ+ youth reported experiencing symptoms of anxiety.
- 58% of LGBTQ+ youth reported experiencing symptoms of depression.

- Join us for “Crisis Response and Suicide Prevention in the LGBTQ+ Community,” our Interest Groups-led webinar, on Thursday, June 30, from 1:30-3 p.m. ET.
- Join us for “Advancing Health Equity,” the seventh episode in our “Wellbeing Wednesday” virtual learning series, on July 6 from 1-2 p.m. ET.
Make a mark in other ways this month:
- Barriers to care still exist for LGBTQ+ individuals. Join us for Hill Day at Home on Wednesday, June 8, as we advocate for legislation that expands access to care for all communities.
- LGBTQ+ individuals are 2.5 times more likely to experience depression, anxiety and substance misuse compared to their straight counterparts. Get trained in Mental Health First Aid to learn how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in others!
