CCBHCs: A New Model for Behavioral Health Gaining Momentum in States

There is growing concern about the COVID-19 pandemic’s long-term impact on mental health and substance use and the threat of an epidemic of deaths of despair from alcohol and drug use and suicide. The Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model is well-placed to respond to this anticipated surge.

Policymakers are looking to CCBHCs to provide increased access to mental health and addiction treatment; address the longstanding gap in unmet need for care; improve partnerships with law enforcement, hospitals, and primary care; and expand states’ capacities to address the opioid crisis and growing suicide rates.

Find out how the 220 CCBHCS now operating in 33 states are changing the future of health care and why a growing number of states are moving toward permanently implementing the model independently via a state plan amendment or Medicaid waiver.
