Coordinator of Peer Services and Peer Support Supervisor,

Deb Carlson, CPRS, CCHW, Coordinator of Peer Services and Peer Support Supervisor, identifies first and foremost as a person living and thriving with lifelong co-occurring challenges including anxiety, depression and eating disorders as well as sexual and multi-generational trauma. A near completed suicide by a close family member when Deb was a teen instilled in her a deep understanding that secrets kill. These experiences led her to the late in life calling to share her lived experience to serve other wounded souls. These people fuel her passion for fighting to end the stigma experienced by people living with behavioral health challenges and bring our secrets into the light.

Deb began her work in Peer Support as a dually certified CPRS and CCHW five years ago at Newport Mental Health Center. Located in Middletown on Aquidneck Island, NMHC serves all of Newport County, RI, providing trauma-informed, evidence-based services to children, adolescents, families and adults who are experiencing MI, SUD and stress in their lives and would benefit from Behavioral Health supports. Our person-centered, strength-based, recovery-oriented approach to care offers the people we serve the tools to experience their best possible quality of life. Deb is honored and privileged to walk side by side with them on their recovery journeys.
