MACRA Webinar Series Kicks-Off, Two More Coming in August
On Thursday, the National Council held its first of three webinars related to the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) and the sweeping reforms it makes to payments under Medicare. The first webinar, “MACRA 101” focused on the proposed quality payment program, which completely overhauls how Medicare Part B clinicians will be paid starting in 2017.
MACRA 101 WEBINAR RECAP
Overall, MACRA aims to reward health care providers for delivering quality and value over patient volume by implementing two new payment models: the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) or Advanced Alternative Payment Models (Advanced APMs). In this first webinar, attendees received an overview of the impetus and impact of the new payment program, including in-depth discussions about the new payment models and their impact on organizations across the country.
Top takeaways from the webinar included:
- Understand What’s Changed: The MACRA Quality Payment Program completely changes how Medicare will reimburse clinicians, emphasizing value and outcomes over patient volume.
- Know Your Eligibility: More than 90% of eligible Medicare Part B clinicians—including psychiatrists and nurse practitioners–will be subject to the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) as of January 1, 2017. The time to prepare is NOW.
- Prepare for the Future: As Medicare implements value-based payment systems, Medicaid and private insurers are likely to follow. Mastering the skills required to succeed for MIPS will help all behavioral health providers prepare to thrive in the context of value-based payments.
Note: Beginning Friday, August 5, interested parties can find a recording of the MACRA 101 webinar here.
