This week, the National Council partnered with 26 national advocacy organizations to host Hill Day 2019. Over 715 advocates from across the country held hundreds of meetings with their Members of Congress, making this the largest National Council Hill Day yet. The National Council thanks our partner organizations and all of our advocates for their tremendous work to highlight the importance of supporting and funding mental health and substance use treatment services.

On Tuesday, Hill Day attendees attended the Public Policy Institute featuring a crash course in federal behavioral health policy. Engaging panels, high-profile keynotes, and educational breakout sessions prepared advocates for their day on Capitol Hill. Attendees participated in sessions on federal appropriations, deep dives into complex legislation, and a lively discussion on comprehensive mental health and addiction reform.

The National Council was thrilled to be joined by political analyst Nicolle Wallace, Congressional staff members Anne Dwyer and Stuart Portman, a panel of individuals with lived experience, and true champions of mental health and addiction reform legislation Representatives Doris Matsui (D-CA) and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK).

During Tuesday night’s Capitol Hill Reception, the National Council was pleased to host Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Representative Gwen Moore (D-WI), recognizing them for their exceptional accomplishments in the behavioral health policy space. All National Council legislative award winners were honored with awards presented by their constituents during their meetings on Wednesday.

We want to hear about your great victories on Capitol Hill. Please take a moment to share them with us:

The National Council gives special thanks to the dedicated State Captains for their hard work and contributions to this event. We look forward to seeing all attendees and thousands more at NatCon20 in Austin, Texas April 5 – 7. Register today!
