Over 600 Advocates Are Heard at Hill Day 2018

On Wednesday, the National Council for Behavioral Health, along with 18 Hill Day partner organizations, hosted over 600 advocates who took to Capitol Hill for Hill Day 2018. The National Council and Hill Day partners thank these advocates for unifying their voices in support of key legislative priorities, including the continuation and expansion of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs). Advocates were energized by two days of NatCon18 and a rousing call to action from Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) before flooding congressional offices to voice their support on a host of mental health and addiction-focused legislative issues.

Keep the Hill Day 2017 Momentum Going

Last week, 700 advocates held over 300 meetings with Congressional members on Capitol Hill as a part of National Council Hill Day 2017. The energy was contagious with advocates directly voicing their stances on a host of legislative priorities. After this successful event, it is important for advocates to stay engaged and begin building and fostering relationships with legislators and their staff.

The National Council and all Hill Day partners thank these advocates for their hard work, terrific advocacy and endless energy this week. Together, these advocates held over 300 meetings on Capitol Hill voicing unified support on a number of important legislative priorities.

Senators Host a Bipartisan Summit on Mental Health

Last week, Senators Chris Murphy (D-CT) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) hosted a summit on mental health, aimed at drawing national attention and support for their bipartisan bill, the Mental Health Reform Act (S. 2680). The event brought together mental health advocates and field experts to discuss challenges and opportunities in the behavioral health care delivery system. Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Patty Murray (D-WA) were also in attendance and both voiced support for the legislation. Senator Alexander noted, “out of all the major pieces of legislation that remain to be worked on, this has as good as a chance as any” for passage.

Congressional Cosponsors Join Behavioral Health Bills After Hill Day

Several members of Congress have added themselves as cosponsors to the Mental Health First Aid Act and Behavioral Health IT Act in the wake of the National Council’s 10th annual Hill Day, held May 7 in Washington, D.C.

Hill Day brought more than 1,200 mental health and substance use advocates to DC for three days of public policy workshops and trainings, followed by visits with their legislators to advocate for our field’s priorities.

Behavioral Health Advocates Make Waves at Hill Day 2013

On September 16-17, behavioral health providers, consumers, and family members from all over the country converged on Washington, DC to urge their legislators to support a strong behavioral health safety net.

Hill Day 2013 featured a full day of workshops to update attendees on the latest policy development and train them on effective advocacy techniques, followed by a day of meetings with elected officials to urge their support for key behavioral health legislation.
