Starting the Conversation About Teen Social Media Use With Help From the Family Media Plan
Parents, caregivers and providers play an important role in guiding how teens use social media. But it can be hard to know where to start! How can we engage teens in conversations? What are some roadblocks to avoid?
Join Pam Pietruszewski, senior advisor, National Council for Mental Wellbeing, and Cori Cross, MD, a pediatrician and ambassador for the American Academy of Pediatrics Center of Excellence on Social Media and Youth Mental Health for Starting the Conversation About Teen’s Social Media Use With Help From the Family Media Plan. This live virtual event on Friday, May 17, 3:30-4:30 p.m. ET, will explore social media’s potential impacts on youth mental health and wellbeing, the creation of the AAP Family Media Plan, and how adults can talk with teens about healthy social media use habits.
The webinar will also explain how providers can use principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI) to foster conversations as families establish expectations around social media use. The presenters will talk through using the Family Media Plan from an MI lens and offer culturally responsive guidance for families.
