Crisis Response: A Strategy for Supporting Youth With Complex Needs and Their Families

Join the National Council for Mental Wellbeing in partnership with University of Connecticut’s Innovations Institute for A Strategy for Supporting Youth With Complex Needs and Their Families. This webinar is for Wednesday, May 28, 1:30-3 p.m. ET, and is sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

Across the nation, many states are struggling to safely and effectively serve youth with complex needs and their families in the community. The California Evidence-based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare (CEBC) highlights the need for a comprehensive, trauma-informed continuum of care that includes community-based response teams to address bed shortages and emergency department boarding. This webinar will highlight how CEBC uses Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS) as a successful prevention/early intervention and stabilization model. Participants will learn from state examples and one CCBHC’s use of MRSS and a walk-in center to better serve youth with complex needs and prevent unnecessary high-end placements.

By attending the webinar, you will:

  • Identify the necessary components of a comprehensive, trauma-informed continuum of care to address bed shortages and emergency department boarding.
  • Learn how MRSS is used to provide the right service at the right time at the right intensity to meet needs identified by youth and families.
  • Learn about how MRSS has been used successfully to provide community-based options for youth with complex needs and their families.
  • Learn how providers and partners can use customized, trauma-informed approaches and practices to better serve youth with complex needs including serious emotional disturbance.
