From Idea to Impact: The Journey of Mental Health First Aid

It began with a walk — and a bold idea.

In 1997, Professor Tony Jorm and his wife, Betty Kitchener, envisioned a way to help people respond to mental health and substance use challenges.

That idea became Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), a skills-based training program that has been transforming lives worldwide since 2000, and in the U.S. since 2008.

In this special Wellbeing Wednesdays episode, we’re talking with Jorm and fellow MHFA visionaries about the program’s growth, reach and influence:

  • Professor Tony Jorm: Co-founder of MHFA
  • Dr. Claire Kelly: Director of International Programs, MHFA International
  • Tramaine EL-Amin: Vice President, Mental Health First Aid USA, National Council for Mental Wellbeing (Moderator)

Join us as we reflect on MHFA’s 25th anniversary, discuss its bright future, and explore how compassionate conversations continue to change — and save — lives.

Learn more about MHFA in the U.S., how to get trained and what you can do to help the National Council bring trainings to more communities!
