Maria Hadjiyane, PhD, MA, LPC, CSAC, is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Maine Behavioral Healthcare (MBH), a division of MaineHealth, in Portland, Maine. An innovative systems thinker, Maria is experienced in working with interdisciplinary clinical and operations teams, partnering with hospital and physician leadership, coordinating care across multiple sites and developing grants. In the COO role, Maria is responsible for the daily operations of a 100-bed stand-alone psychiatric hospital serving children and adults; multiple outpatient psychiatric and substance use disorder treatment clinics; residential group homes; crisis services; and the integrated behavioral health services across the MaineHealth footprint. Maria joined MBH in August 2020 as the Vice President of Ambulatory Services.
Prior to joining Maine Behavioral Healthcare, Maria served as Senior Director of Behavioral Health Adult Ambulatory Services at Inova Health System in Virginia. She was employed by Inova Health for more than 15 years, working as a counseling supervisor and eventually Senior Director of Ambulatory Services. Prior to working in healthcare, Maria’s career focused on information technology and project management.
Maria earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling at The George Washington University, Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Bowie State University and Master of Science in Systems Management from University of Southern California. She has presented on SUD, recovery and clinical operations at numerous international, federal and state agencies and meetings. She is a proud member of the American Counseling Association and American College of Healthcare Executives.
