Centering Youth Voices to End Vaping Harm: A Quick Guide for Trusted Adults
With support from Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, the National Council for Mental Wellbeing developed this resource to center youth voices and equip caregivers, educators, health care providers, advocates and other trusted adults with evidence-based and youth-informed tools to address one of the past decade’s most pressing public health challenges: youth nicotine addiction from vaping.
Vaping can harm both the physical and mental health of young people, exposing them to nicotine and toxic chemicals that can damage the developing brain, affect attention and mood, irritate the lungs, and increase the risk of addiction and future substance use. Young people make healthier choices when they feel heard and respected, not judged. Whether you’re a health care provider, parent, teacher, or caregiver, the trust you build is what turns a difficult conversation into a candid one.
