World Mental Health Day is almost here! On Oct. 10, people around the world will raise awareness and take action for mental wellbeing. Here are 10 ways you can turn the spirit of this observance into meaningful action all year long.

1. Start the Conversation

Break the stigma by talking openly about mental health with friends, family and colleagues. A simple “How are you, really?” can make a big difference. Read our blog post for tips on engaging others.

2. Share Trusted Resources

Post helplines, mental health guides and evidence-based resources on social media so others know where to turn for support. Visit our resource directory for additional tools you can share.

3. Wear Green

Green is the international color for mental health awareness. Show your solidarity by wearing green on this day and encouraging others to do the same. Learn more about the history of wearing green in support of mental health.

4. Take a Mental Health Break

Prioritize self-care by blocking out time for a walk, meditation, journaling or any activity that helps recharge your mind. Read our self-care blog posts for tips on how to get started.

5. Attend an Event

Participate in webinars, workshops or community activities that promote mental wellbeing. Explore our events calendar for learning opportunities around mental illness, substance use disorder and more.

6. Support Mental Health Legislation

Advocate for policies that expand access to care. You can start by writing to your legislators, signing up for advocacy alerts or downloading our Advocacy Handbook for guidance.

7. Check in With Someone

Reach out to a friend, neighbor or coworker who might be struggling. Through our Mental Health First Aid trainings, you can gain the knowledge and skills to support people in their time of need.

8. Donate or Volunteer

Support nonprofits and community organizations dedicated to expanding mental health services. Or you can make a gift to help us make mental wellbeing, including recovery from substance use, a reality for all.

9. Educate Yourself

Explore mental health topics, read inspiring stories and learn how communities can access the care they need. Subscribe to our newsletters to stay curious, informed and empowered about mental health.

10. Celebrate Progress and Hope

Share stories of resilience, recovery and positive change to remind others that healing is possible and help is always available. We’d love to feature your story on our blog — submit yours today!

World Mental Health Day is a universal call to action. Each one of us can do our part. By starting conversations, sharing resources and uplifting those around us, we can build communities where everyone feels seen, heard and valued.
