Mental Health First Aid USA is a training course that gives ordinary people the skills to help someone who may be developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The course teaches participants how to interact with a person in crisis and how to connect the person with the appropriate professional, peer or other help. The training uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to recognize and respond to the warning signs of specific illnesses like anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and substance use disorders. A special Youth Mental Health First Aid program helps people learn how to assist youth ages 12-25.
