When you donate to Mental Health First Aid, your donations will be used to train more Americans in the adult and youth versions of Mental Health First Aid. In 2008, the National Council brought Mental Health First Aid to the U.S. and today, more than 730,000 people have been trained in Mental Health First Aid through a network of 11,000+ certified instructors. Mental Health First Aid USA is a public education program designed to give ordinary people the skills to help someone who may be developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. A live training teaches participants how to interact with a person in crisis and how to connect the person with the appropriate professional, peer, or other help. The training uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to recognize and respond to the warning signs of specific illnesses like anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders. A special Youth Mental Health First Aid program launched in 2012 helps people learn how to assist youth ages 12-25.
Donate to Mental Health First Aid and your support will help save lives. The approximate cost to train one Mental Health First Aider in your community is $170, and the cost to certify an instructor to teach Mental Health First Aid is $1,800.
