GOTV 2024
Publicly elected officials, whether at the local, state, or national level, can have an immense impact on access to comprehensive mental health and substance use care.
The right to vote lies at the heart of our nation’s founding principles – it is the bedrock of our democracy.
This election year represents a chance to get involved as a proud, informed voter and to learn more about what different proposed policy platforms could mean for people dealing with a mental health or substance use challenge and the organizations that serve them.
It may seem from reading or watching the news that the political landscape is more polarized than ever – but time and time again, elected officials from across the political spectrum come together to prioritize addressing the ongoing mental health and substance use crises.
That’s because mental health and substance use challenges impact every community across the country.
While much of the elections discussion in 2024 is almost exclusively on the races at the “Top of the Ticket,” it’s also important to remember that decisions made on the state, county and municipal levels often make some of the biggest impact on access to mental health and substance use care in your community.
As you’re thinking about elections this year, we encourage you to research different candidates’ positions on mental health and substance use care and remember it’s every bit as crucial to look into the candidates for state and local offices who make decisions that will directly affect your community and your life.
